Your character is what you really are…

blurrypeony_bluebackground.jpg

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”  – John Wooden

Been gone too long…

pinkspringblossoms.jpg

I didn’t expect to take a 2 month hiatus but pregnancy can do that to you I guess. I lost my focus but I’m getting re-inspired and hope to have quite a few posts here for you in the next few days, weeks, months. If there is a lapse, it’s due to my belly getting too heavy (twins!) as I enter my 3rd trimester. Soon there will be baby toes along with things that catch my eye and food that makes my mouth water. It feels good to be back!

Be glad of life…

purplehyacinth_radiator.jpg

“Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to live and to work and to play and to look up at the stars” -Henry Van Dyke

Last hyacinth photo for a while…I’ll be throwing in some more variety…just couldn’t get over how beautiful they are…if only I could transmit the lovely smell as well.

The life around me…

sepiahyacinth.jpg

“I must interpret the life around me as I interpret the life that is my own. My life is full of meaning to me. The life around me must be full of significance to itself. If I am to expect others to respect my life,
then I must respect the other life I see, however strange it may be to mine” –Albert Schweitzer

Delicious ambiguity…

bluehyacinth_blackborder.jpg

“I wanted a perfect ending… Now, I’ve learned, the hard
way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear
beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking
the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen
next. Delicious ambiguity” –Gilda Radner

I think “delicious” is one of my favorite words…I love how the very sound of it is just as wonderful as the thing it describes. I can’t think of a more appropriate word in describing the scent of fresh hyacinth. I bought a few bunches this weekend at the green market so expect a few more pictures of them ahead. This quote rings so true about the place I’m in my life right now. I’m trying to just allow things to happen naturally and unknowingly. Sometimes it just feels better to let go…

It is only with gratitude that life becomes rich…

tahoetrees_vintage.jpg

“In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich”. -Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I am grateful for the weather slowly warming up, the small buds beginning to form on my favorite tree, for the lighter evenings, and the gorgeous sunset I saw on my walk home last night. For another day, another hour, another moment.

Generosity of soul…

“To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness , and kindness”  –Confucius

Find your eternity in each moment…

waxflower_black.jpg

“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.”  –Henry David Thoreau

Sorry I’ve been absent from this blog – I hope you’ll hang in there with me for another week as I head out of town and then I’ll be back in full force. In the meantime, enjoy this moment, don’t be so anxious for tomorrow. I think we all need a reminder to slow down and stop getting so ahead of ourselves. Wishing you a beautiful day!

But i’m not too blue to fly…

“The Littlest Birds” – The Be Good Tanyas

Well I feel like an old hobo, I’m sad lonesome and blue
I was fair as the summer day now the summer days are through
You pass through places and places pass through you
But you carry ’em with you on the souls of your travellin’ shoes

Well I love you so dearly I love you so clearly
Wake you up in the mornin’ so early
Just to tell you I got the wanderin’ blues
I got the wanderin’ blues
And i’m gonna quit these ramblin’ ways one of these days soon
And I’ll sing

The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs…

Well it’s times like these I feel so small and wild
Like the ramblin’ footsteps of a wanderin’ child
And i’m lonesome as a lonesome whippoorwill
Singin these blues with a warble and a trill
But i’m not too blue to fly
No i’m not too blue to fly cuz

The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs…

Well I love you so dearly I love you so fearlessly
Wake you up in the mornin’ so early
Just to tell you I got the wanderin’ blues
I got the wanderin’ blues
And I don’t wanna leave you I love you through and through

Oh I left my baby on a pretty blue train
And I sang my songs to the cold and the rain
I had the wanderin’ blues
And I sang those wanderin’ blues
And i’m gonna quit these ramblin’ ways one of these days soon
And i’ll sing

The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs….

I don’t care if the sun don’t shine
I don’t care if nothin’ is mine
I don’t care if I’m nervous with you
I’ll do my lovin’ in the wintertime -Syd Barrett

I love this song, always makes me think of a summer day, just the lightness of it. And when it’s winter, I close my eyes, have a listen, and dream of a beautiful, warm day in my future.

I want to have lived…

“I do not want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.” Diane Ackerman,
