Nothing is so strong as gentleness…

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness and nothing is so gentle as real strength.” –Ralph W. Sockman Some delicious red velvet cupcakes my husband baked – nothing beats a cream cheese frosting! I almost posted a photo of bacon as well – bacon and cupcakes – this gives an indicator of the bad things I crave […]

Letter, June 24, 1907, to his wife. Rilke’s Letters on Cézanne (1952, trans. 1985). Thoughts of the new year […]

Making optimism a way of life…

“One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself”  –Lucille Ball

“Touched by an Angel” – Maya Angelou   We, unaccustomed to courage exiles from delight live coiled in shells of loneliness until love leaves its high holy temple and comes into our sight to liberate us into life.   Love arrives and in its train come ecstasies old memories of pleasure ancient histories of pain. […]

Favorite things…

I love this sushi roll – it’s tuna with a spicy mayo and panko bread crumbs on the outside. I dream of and crave this roll on a regular basis. Felt like a good thing to post on a friday. It’s always the little pleasures that make a life. Happy Weekend!

Hope’ is the thing with feathers”- by Emily Dickinson “Hope” is the thing with feathers– That perches in the soul– And sings the tune without the words– And never stops–at all–   And sweetest–in the Gale–is heard– And sore must be the storm– That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm–   […]
